The Great Escape

Our lives have been crazier than usual over the past few weeks due to the new HEAD COACH, so it was really nice to be able to escape to Guntersville for the weekend. It was awesome to wake up in the mornings and have Nana come grab the kids so we could relax or sleep for just a few more minutes. It was great not to have to be anywhere, at any specific time. It was nice to just be together. . .without emails, phone calls, and texts at all hours of the day.

We arrived late Friday night because TJ had family night at his camp, Maranook. But when we arrived, Nana & Bill had planned a little celebration for the new coach. . .Complete with news articles, cake, and a football monogrammed with his first season's schedule. Really special!

After getting a little extra shut-eye Saturday morning (thanks again Nana), we ate yummy pancakes and went straight for the pool!

For lunch, we headed to the dam for a picnic on the water. It was perfect weather (finally), and the kids loved climbing on the rocks!

Now, it's Monday. . .back to real life. Official football practice starts this Thursday, and the first day of school is next Thursday! Summer, where did you go?!

Well, I may not be a trophy wife, but I am the proud wife of Springwood's new HEAD FOOTBALL COACH!

Congratulations Daddy! We couldn't be more thankful for all that you do for us, and for your school. You are such a hard working & dedicated man, and we are so proud to call you ours!

SAVE me from this RAIN!

So, last night a few Superheroes came to my cranky/rain-induced mood rescue!

This has been the rainiest, coolest summer I can ever remember. . .I honestly can't think of a day that it hasn't rained at least a little bit! So, as soon as we got home yesterday afternoon, my heroes suited up! I asked them to stop for a picture and pose. TJ told Tristan he needed to "spin a web" for his pose, but it kind of turned out like an "I'm not a crook" Richard Nixon pose! Tan thought Elmo could spin a little web of her own!

Saturday, it only rained in the morning and afternoon which equals a mostly sunny day for us, so we spent it having fun at the lake. We found a turtle crossing the road on the way up, so I hopped out of the car to "save" him!

We played with sidewalk chalk.

We played in the hammock.

We went on the boat, and skied.

And, we listed to KK read books.

Crazy to think that summer is almost over, and it hasn't even reached 100 degrees here yet! We start school in a few short weeks, and are hoping not to get soaked any more. . .unless it's with sunshine! Hoping Earth's Mightiest Heroes don't have to make a return. . .

"It's Like Ray-ian on Your Wedding Day..."

So, this July 4th Holiday was one for the record books. Literally, the coldest 4th of July on record. We're used to sweltering, close to 100 degree heat, by this time each year. I'm not sure if we even hit 75 degrees this year!

As usual, we planned on spending the Holiday with family at the lake. And, not only was it cold (yes, 75 degrees is really cold for us Southern ladies), it was also really wet. As in, it rained for 5 days straight. . .pretty much the non-stop kind of rain. I'm not complaining, really, just trying to paint a picture of what a Momma with 3 young, rambunctious, kids was up against. So, you know what we did. . .we did it all anyway!

The lake put on their annual fireworks show on Wednesday night, so we went with umbrellas, rain jackets, blankets and towels. . .in the rain:

Thursday was the 4th, and it rained. . .all day. We fished, swam & jumped off the dock (not "we," as in not "I"), played cards and games, and ate all day long:

Friday, Saturday & Sunday were more of the same. Rain. And, more rain. But, we carried on as usual, except added in a little skiing, tubing, played with the fish we caught, and Tristan and Daddy jumped off a bridge!

Was thankful to see a rainbow. . .kinda started to wonder ;-) And, thankful to live in the 'ole US of A (where it's FREE. . .to rain, and all)!
